needs. Your first visit is called a new patient appointment.
Please review all the information below so you know what to expect
at your first appointment.
- Heath History Review: A thorough review of
your health history is performed to ensure there are no
potential complications with treatment.
- Blood Pressure Screening: Most people see
the dentist more often than their physician. This affords
us the opportunity to detect any abnormal variations in blood
pressure before it becomes dangerous. In addition, this
will help reduce or identify potential complications with dental
treatment.
- Complete Series of X-rays
18 digital radiographs used to diagnose pathology
in the teeth, supporting bone and evaluate associated anatomical
structures. These are taken every 3-5 years as needed.
Check up x-rays (generally 4 "bitewing" x-rays) are taken on an
annual basis).
- Comprehensive Oral Evaluation
- Head and Neck Exam: Evaluation of the jaw joint
and neck for abnormalities.
- Periodontal screening: Measurements of the
pocket depth of the gums around your teeth are made at 6
locations per tooth to evaluate your periodontal health.
These measurements are used to determine what type of cleaning
is needed.
- Oral Cancer Screening: A thorough
inspection for signs or oral cancer are performed.
- Soft Tissue Evaluation: Evaluation
of your soft tissues for any pathology
- Hard Tissue Evaluation: Evaluation
of your teeth for any pathology.
- Occlusal Evaluation: Evaluation of
your bite and alignment of teeth.
- Treatment Plan: A plan of treatment needs
and sequence will be determined based on the finding from the
above evaluations. Often a separate appointment will be made to
discuss your plan and alternative treatment options.
- Cleaning: A cleaning may or may not be done
at your initial visit depending on the health of your gums and
supporting bone.
- Arrive early to enjoy the children's play area.
- Tour of the office: Dr. Adrian will show
your child around the office to make him/her more comfortable
with the environment.
- Pick a toothbrush: Your child can pick the
toothbrush they want prior to being evaluated. This sets a
a positive experience in motion.
- Heath History Review: A thorough review of
your health history is performed to ensure there are no
potential complications with treatment.
- X-Rays
Depending on the age of your child, 2 bitewing
x-rays and 2 occlusal x-rays will be taken. A panoramic
x-ray will be recommended once your child's first adult tooth
has erupted in accordance with the American Association of
Pediatric Dentists guidelines.
- Comprehensive Oral Evaluation
- Head and Neck Exam: Evaluation of jaw joint
and neck for abnormalities.
- Oral Cancer Screening: A thorough
inspection for signs or oral cancer are performed.
- Soft Tissue Evaluation: Evaluation
of your child's soft tissues for any pathology
- Hard Tissue Evaluation: Evaluation
of your child's teeth for any pathology.
- Occlusal Evaluation: Evaluation of
your child's bite, alignment of teeth and facial growth pattern.
If discrepancies are noted, a referral will be given for
evaluation and correction.
- Treatment Plan: A plan of your child's
treatment needs and sequence will be determined based on the
finding from the above evaluations. Often a separate appointment
will be made to discuss the plan and alternative treatment
options.
- Cleaning: A thorough cleaning will be
performed
- Fluoride Treatment: First your child will
pick a flavor from our fluoride menu. Then the fluoride
will be applied to your child's teeth for up to four minutes to
help make them more resistant to decay.
- Have picture taken for membership in the "No Cavity Club"
and "Good Gums Club": When applicable, to be
displayed on the wall.
- Receive prize for good behavior
Dr. Adrian requests that parents remain in the waiting area
and enjoy our extensive selection of reading material while we are
treating your child. This helps your child with a more
independent and grown up experience which promotes a positive
outcome. Of course there are exceptions.
